Embedded System Terminology - U
uClinux - A variant of the popular Linux kernel designed for use in systems without a memory management unit. |
Ultra Large Scale Integration (ULSI) - A reference to the number of electronic components in an IC. A ULSI chip is an IC containing over 1,000,000 electronic components per chip. |
Unidirectional - A one-way flow of information, as in some communications channels. |
Unified Modeling Language - A standardized visual notation for communication about system specifications and design details. Abbreviated UML. |
Uninitialized data - Static variables that have no initial value assigned to them. Uninitialized data is generally located in the bss segment. |
Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (UART) - A serial interface that supports asynchronous serial transmission. |
Universal Synchronous Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (USART) - A serial interface that supports both synchronous and asynchronous serial transmission. |
Universal Serial Bus - A serial protocol and physical link that transmits all data differentially on a single pair of wires |
Untwisted Pair (UTP) - A pair of parallel wires used for digital and analog data transmission. |
Up counter - A counter that counts up from zero toward its maximum value. |
