Embedded System Components

An embedded system has two components: Hardware and Software. Both hardware and software are custom built for an application. The architecture of hardware and software depends on product requirements.

Hardware – It refers to circuit board that has active and passive electronic components. It also has electrical or mechanical components. It is the lower most layer of embedded device. Embedded hardware is much simpler than a general purpose computer system but it can also be more complex.
Embedded System Components - Hardware
It consists of
  • Power Supply Module
  • Input Module
  • Processing Module
  • Output Module
Software – A piece of program that controls the underlying hardware. The software is required to perform the series of application tasks. The design of embedded software is based on application requirements, availability of system memory, availability of processor speed and power consumption requirement. Embedded software systems are generally held to a much higher reliability standard than general purpose software.
